Option Dialoque Questions
The Option Dialogue questions were designed to help you discover your reasons for holding onto unhappiness. Over time each person who uses Option discovers his or her own style and preference for asking questions, as well as possibly adding a few questions of their own. Above all else when asking questions, a non-judgmental attitude and a willingness to listen are some of the greatest tools you can ever offer yourself or another.
If you answer a question with “I don’t know” we advise you to take a guess.
Questions for Gathering & Clarifying
(Getting clear about your problem means taking the time to specifically understand why you are unhappy.)
(Substitute the world unhappy for your form of unhappiness, i.e., sad, angry, disappointed, etc.)
- What are you unhappy about?
- Why are you unhappy about that?
- What about that makes you unhappy?
- How do you feel about that?
- Can you give me an example of that?
- What do you mean by that?
Questions for Challenging Limiting Beliefs
(Questioning limiting beliefs let’s you establish if you actually believe what you think, and allows you to uncover what you’re afraid might happen if you weren’t unhappy.)
- Do you believe that?
- Why do you believe that?
- Is there something you’re afraid might happen if you weren’t unhappy about that?
- Is there something you’re afraid it might mean about you if weren’t unhappy about that?
Questions for Reassessing Limiting Beliefs
(These questions help you evaluate the truth and effectiveness of believing you need to be unhappy.)
- Do you believe that would happen?
- Do you believe that is true?
- How is being unhappy suppose to help you accomplish this?
- Do you believe getting unhappy is helping you to do this? (What actually happens?)
- Do you believe you could accomplish what you want and feel good?
- Do you believe it would mean that?
- Why would it have to mean that?
- Is there something you’re afraid might happen if you no longer believed that?
These questions are not necessarily asked in a linear process. You will often go back to clarify meaning or question a belief. Trust yourself to choose the question that best relates. |
